Curriculum

Eduvate offers a premium  high quality curriculum becnhmarked against  international best standards. We currently serve learners in grades 4 to 9 and are excited to be offering grades 10 to 12 from 2022 onwards.  We offer all of the necessary requirements of the South African national standard curriculum (CAPS), and build on this by adding critical 21st century skills, personal mastery and digital learning.  The curriculum is delivered as per the ordinary CAPS phases, these inlcude the Intermediate Phase, Senior Phase and in 2022 the Further Education and Training (FET) Phase with our Gr. 12 culminating in a National Senior Certificate (Matric).

Intermediate Phase
Gr. 4, 5 & 6

Students are required to learn six subjects in total.

We offer English as our home language at all levels and we provide the convenience for students to choose between IsiZulu, IsiXhosa or Afrikaans as their first additional language.

Eduvate ensures that learners exceed the 27.5 notional hour requirement every week.

Senior Phase
Gr. 7, 8 & 9

At this level, subject matter becomes more specialised and new subjects are introduced. Additional subjects include Economic and Management Sciences, Life Orientation and Creative Arts.

The option to choose between IsiZulu, IsiXhosa or Afrikaans as a first additional language is still available. This academic level is more hands-on, and learners are required to complete projects at home using project kits which are provided.

FET Phase
Gr. 10, 11 & 12
(2022 Onwards)

At this level, core curriculum is reduced to base subjects and students are required to specialise by choosing electives. Each learner requires three electives over and above the base subjects, each of which involves a minimum of four notional hours per week.

Eduvate will offer nine electives for learners to choose from and will continue to expand this offer over time.

Grade 12 assessment will result in a national senior certificate (Matric) upon completion.

Extended Curriculum

The core Eduvate offer is based on the South African CAPS curriculum; however, Eduvate delivers content and assesment, aligned with the standards set by Singapore Prime Math and UK English, global leaders in both subjects.

In addition to the standard subjects required by CAPS a range of  additional learning will be provided. This content focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) as well as Coding and Robotics.

Coding

Coding

Every app, game or software program in the world requires code to work. This makes coding a valuable skill.

Regardless of whether a student goes on to be a software developer or not, our coding curriculum will develop learner’s problem-solving skills. It will also equip each learner with valuable mental tools such as perseverance, trial and error as well as an understanding of cause and effect.

Coding challenges children to think creatively and pursue innovative solutions.

Robotics

Robotics

By 2034, 47% of all jobs will be automated and replaced by robots. Eduvate offers curriculum relevant to these changing industry needs and the digital age of robotics.

Building on the coding curriculum, the robotics offer has two potential pathways.

Students can use the coding skills they have developed to program and control virtual robots in a gamified project-based learning environment.

Older more advanced students will be able to purchase robotics project kits for building and programming.

STEM

STEM

Adding to our coding and robotics offerings Eduvate incorporates STEM learning throughout the experience using a project-based learning method.

The timetable at all levels will therefore not only include coding and robotics but it will include STEM lessons and hands-on projects based on an engineering design process teaching students to Ask – Research – Imagine – Plan – Create – Test – Improve.

The Eduvate STEM curriculum will engage students in group project work further developing their socio-emotional skills.

Project kits

The Eduvate model is a unique approach to digital education, unlike anything currently available on the South African market. The hybrid approach breaks away from traditional digital correspondence and aims to create a blended learning “school in the home” experience.

This is acheived with our project kits. These kits will be available to all learners and are included in the school fee for learners on the online school package. Kits are couriered directly to learners on a termly basis depending on grade level. The kits include hands-on science and craft projects to complete at home, some of which will count toward final grades.

VR Immersion

Eduvates optional virtual reality (VR) immersions are yet another feature that takes our offering to an entirely different level of learning. Eduvate sends learners a VR kit which includes a proprietary all in one Ultra HD VR headset*.

Educators can take learners on an immersive learning journey, whether it be a tour of the solar system, a trip back in time,  or a submarine down to the bottom of the ocean.

The options for this technology are practically limitless and Eduvate aims to eventually incorporate at least one synchronised VR immersion experience per day into the regular academic timetable.

Social & Emotional Development

We understand that a thriving child is about more than good academic grades.  The ability to interract effectively with others is critical to both academic as well as life long success. At Eduvate we focus on  equiping our students with the thinking, behavioural and  self-regulatory skills they need to achieve their utmost best.

Project Based Learning

Students are arranged into small learning groups and are required to work together on an action learning based  project over the course of the year.

This project counts for marks and builds student social, teamwork, leadership and research skills.

Soft Skills Integration

Our focus on social and emotional development is integrated throughout the entire Eduvate experiance.

We equip students with a toolkit  of social emotional skills such as goal setting, empathy,  responsible decision making,  collaboration, persistance, accountability, kindess and more.

Extra Curricular Activities

Just because we are an online school does not mean our students cannot get out and play! We believe extra curricular activities are essential to a childs succesful development. Thats why we are establishing relationships with sports clubs and cultural centers around the country with the aim of arranging regular exclusive in person events, activities and workshops for our students and parents.

Arts, Culture & Sport

Learners can participate in activities such as dramatic arts, music, debate, sports such as rugby, cricket, hockey and swimming to name a few.

Social Events

Learners can engage with clubs, volunteer programs, school socials, school dances, volunteer programs, field trips and so much more.

Teaching Efficacy

With over 25 hours per week on average, the Eduvate model provides a market leading amount of virtual teacher contact time. This ensures that the student is progressing in their learning throughout the day and can ask for help as and when needed. This is vastly different from current at-home schooling models where the school supplies the curriculum and the parent must fulfill the role of the educator.

Blended Learning

The Eduvate Curriculum is delivered through a comprehensive holistic learning experience. Students learn through multiple modalities, including live teacher led virtual classes, hands on project kit activities, group action learning, individual self-study and proprietary digital learning software applications.

Blackboard Learn

Our primary Learning Management System is based on Blackboard Learn. This gives our students and parents a modern, intuitive, fully responsive interface. Providing a simpler, more powerful teaching and learning experience.

Tutor Support

Our on-demand tutor call centre gives learners access to qualified knowledge area experts for guidances and support when they need it most.

Tutors are available for all subjects and grades from 06:00 – 18:00 Monday to Friday and can be called using our ordinary call center contact number or  through Microsoft Teams.

International
Benchmarking

With our partners Mindspark Math and ASSET we provide powerful skill-based testing that measures student’s conceptual understanding and benchmarks our performance at international, national & regional levels with actionable insights through easy-to-understand reports.
